Defense wins…well, one game, anyway.

They caught a break just winning the game. This is a bad team.
Yes. In fact, right now this is a *very* bad team.
But, for me, I am curious to know..just how bad really? I know they are not 15th in their Conference bad. But, if/when they make their heroic run towards 8th (in Sully’s words) what will it mean? I highly doubt they will successfully complete that march (and they don’t deserve to) given their abysmally bad start (which was my biggest worry about this season). Too little, too late.
So, this season now becomes all about evaluation. Which players should stay or go? Should Rolston? Should Darcy? For me, now that Lindy is gone, I am even more interested in watching this team. It’s no longer about whether they win or lose games.
It’s how.
Their defense may be the worst in the league. Myers has been mentioned a lot, and deservedly so. But, all of them seem to be terrible at giving pucks away and not clearing the zone for some reason this year.
I’d like the Sabres to lose games. The 2013 draft is said to be a strong one with 2 studs at the top with Jones and McKinnon, and a few other heralded offensive talents. That’s the most effective way to win.
